5. Exposing PTSD

5) EXPOSING PTSD, WITH IMAGINATION

IMAGINED EXPOSURE THERAPY

DissociationA traumatic event can be remembered from the past, experienced in the present as a flashback, or imagined in the future as a threat. So if the original traumatic event created terror, the fear of re-experiencing it can result in escalating panic attacks.

Talk therapy assumes PTSD symptoms can be extinguished through recall and discussion of painful memories. However, repeated recall of these memories can also lead to re-traumatization and a worsening of the symptoms.

The emotional tuning protocol demonstrated in Video 5 provides a gentle form of imagined exposure to the traumatic event. A dissociative technique allows us to approach our traumatic event from a distance, so we are not overwhelmed with disturbing emotions. After practicing the protocol, we should be able to recall a traumatic event peacefully and correct the erroneous idea that tension must stay in our body forever.

SELF-HEALING PTSD, ANONYMOUSLY

Larry & MeasuresVideo 5-”Humming Your Healing Touch” shows us how to combine elements of the previous videos together in a kind of four part harmony, which we can practice in the safety and privacy of our own home.
The video provides an efficient sequence of self-healing steps for calming ourself, tuning into feelings, tapping emotional meridians bilaterally, and humming self-affirmations while recalling moderately disturbing memories.
The video’s humming sounds alternate from right to left audio channels, enhancing bilateral brain stimulation, so for full effect we listen with stereo head phones.
We can measure our progress towards dissolving disturbing emotions, by rating our emotional intensity on a 0-10 point scale, at the end of each round of emotional tuning.
